Ein Vorgang wie aus dem kultur- und kommunikationswissenschaftlichen Lehrbuch. 2009 gab es die der Varusschlacht vor zweitausend Jahren gewidmete große Dreifachausstellung in Haltern, Kalkriese und Detmold. Danach sind Römer und Aufständische gleichermaßen in die Schulstuben und Wiederholung-Endlosschleifen der zwei-, drei- oder vierteiligen Dokufictions auf VOX und ZDF-info zurückgekehrt. Die Landesarchäologen und Beschäftigten der einschlägigen Stellen, vor allem des „Landschaftsverbandes Westfalen-Lippe" widmen sich wieder ihrer alltäglichen Arbeit. Doch regelhafter Fortschritt im Unauffälligen bietet in Zeiten knapper Aufmerksamkeitsspannen und konkurrierender Ansprüche keine Gewähr für die Sicherung kontinuierlicher wissenschaftlicher Forschung.
Die ersten Hinweise gab es vor mehr als 100 Jahren - jetzt ist die Entdeckung endlich geglückt: Archäologen haben ein römisches Militärlager bei Olfen im Münsterland aufgespürt. In der Region ist es der bedeutendste Fund dieser Art seit Jahrzehnten.
