George W. Bush, hört man, sorgt sich um sein Vermächtnis. Er möchte in Erinnerung bleiben als Mann, der die Welt ein gutes Stück weiter gebracht hat auf dem dornenreichen Weg von der Tyrannei zur Freiheit, und er hadert damit, dass diese Sicht der Dinge bis auf weiteres nicht als mehrheitsfähig gelten kann. "Die Geschichte wird ein Urteil fällen", beschied seine Gattin Laura dieser Tage trotzig einem Fernsehreporter, "wir werden schon sehen". Probleme mit dem Erbe des 43. US-Präsidenten hat derweil auch das Nationalarchiv in Washington. Sie sind vergleichsweise profaner Natur, aber keineswegs unerheblich.
Wir setzen uns landesweit fuer oeffentliche und gut ausgestattete Bibliotheken ein. Bibliotheken sind eine oeffentliche Pflichtaufgabe, die, wie von der Enquete-Kommission "Kultur in Deutschland" vorgeschlagen, in allen Laendern durch Bibliotheksgesetze verankert werden muss. Doch auch das allein reicht nicht. Bibliotheken muessen mehr sein als Ausleihstellen. Sie als kulturelle Treffpunkte zu staerken, ist eine wichtige bildungs- und kulturpolitische Aufgabe der Zukunft und ein Schluesselfeld der kulturellen Bildung.
Bochum. Die Menschen werden kaputt gespart. Die Kultur wird kaputtgespart. Die Kultur in unserem Alltag, in unserem Leben: Schwimmbäder, öffentliche Bibliotheken, Personal in Schulen, Kindergärten, Krankenhäusern, Pflegeheimen … – alles was unsere Lebens- und Alltagskultur ausmacht wird dem Verrotten überlassen.
